Lu Bu ( Lu Fengxian ) ( 156 AD - 199 AD ) was one of the most feared warriors in the Three Kingdoms period. He was brought up by his adoptive father, Ding Yuan, whom he betrayed for the infamous horse Red Hare and an ample amount of gold. When he joined the ranks of Dong Zhuo he performed many extraordinary tasks, such as fighting Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei all at the same time. But also while under the tyrant, he fell in love with the concubine Diao Chan, who was then given to Dong Zhuo. So to get the mistress, he killed Dong Zhuo. This was all a plan conceived by Diao Chan's adoptive father Wang Yun to rid China of Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu then went off on his own; fighting mostly Cao Cao. In 198 AD he was betrayed by his own men, and executed by Cao Cao.
Death of the Immortal
In 198 AD, Lu Bu held camp at Xia Pi fortress while being attacked by Cao Cao. To lower the moral of Lu Bu's troupes, the water in the fortress was flooded. One night after heavy drinking, Lu Bu noticed how the drinking was ruining him, so he banned it from the fortress. Later on, a general under Lu Bu, Hou Cheng captured a thief that was about to steal fifteen horses to give to Cao Cao. Hou Cheng celebrated by bringing wine to Lu Bu, who in turn was to have Hou Cheng executed. But after appeals from Song Xian and Wei Xu, the punishment was dropped to fifty cuts. Disappointed by the treatment of their ruler, Hou Cheng, Song Xian, and Wei Xu made a plan to betray Lu Bu. Hou Cheng stole Lu Bu's famed horse, Red Hare, gave it to Cao Cao, and said to attack the fortress when he saw the white flag. Cao Cao sent letters by arrow over the fortress walls saying "anyone who wants to join me can, otherwise you will be put to death." The next day, virtually alone, Lu Bu tried to fend off the attackers. Suffering from fatigue, he went to his tower to sleep. Wei Xu dismissed the tired general's guards, tied him up with the help of Song Xian and brought him to Cao Cao, along with Gao Shun, Zhang Liao, and Chen Gong, a friend of Cao Cao's who accepted his death freely. Lu Bu pleaded to Cao Cao to spare him, and to allow him to serve as a general. But Cao Cao knew not to trust Lu Bu and had him executed. Lu Bu was 43 years old at the time of his death.
