Dynasty Warriors 7 (abbreviated to DW7) is a hack & slash legacy developed by KOEI. It was originally confirmed to be a Playstation 3 exclusive due to the series's tenth anniversary and history on the Playstation consoles. But it would be announced that an Xbox 360 version would also be released.
Dynasty Warriors 7 is the next in the superb series of Dynasty Warriors games based on the novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong. The novel and game are based in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Players will take control of officers from Wei, Shu, Wu, Other, and the Jin kingdom as they fight against others to take control of China.
 Battle System
Each character will be able to equip two weapons. The player will be able to choose which weapons they want their characters to wield as they no longer have a restriction to one permanent weapon. Characters will have preferred weapons to use, and have a special attack called an "EX Attack" that is used with a characters preferred weapon. The input for each EX Attack will vary depending on the character and can be viewed on the weapon's action list. Each weapon can also equip a special element.
- Fire: Will engulf enemies in flames and cause more damage.
- Ice: Will freeze an opponent.
- Lightening: Stuns opponents, and deals great physical damage.
- Wind: Will break an enemies guard.
- Slay: Will kill weak enemies instantly.
Weapons can be changed at any time during a battle by pressing the R1 button. Changing a weapon will also trigger a special attack called "Switch Attack". Seals can also be attached to a weapon and will affect the character in battle. It can increase a players attack or lower the damage from combat.
 Character Growth
Dynasty Warriors 7 would return to the format that it had in previous titles before Dynasty Warriors 6. Characters will have these three stats: Health, Attack, and defense. Characters can also collect items on the battlefield that will help boost these stats for the character they are using. The sword is used to increase attack, a shield for defense, and a dim sum for health. These can be obtained by defeating an enemy officer.
Musou Gauges can also be increased by using Skill points that are earned based on a players performance on the battlefield. These skill points can also unlock a second musou, and other personal traits for the character. Playable characters will have their on unique skills.
Free Mode and Challenge Mode do not return in this game.
 Story Mode
Story Mode follows the Three Kingdoms' stories. Players will be able to play with the new Jin faction to end the era. Jin will include generals from Wei and who fought against Shu after Wu Zhang Plains. Other Characters would not have their own individual stories in this game.
Players will not able to choose which character they prefer to use in this mode, they will play as characters that are given to them for each stage. Some stages will be divided up into two for players to play from different character perspectives. At the start of each stage, the player will roam an ally stronghold and select when they wish to begin a battle after preparing themselves with proper equipment or chatting with ally generals.
 Conquest Mode
Conquest Mode is a new mode to the Dynasty Warriors series. It allows players to explore another side of the Three Kingdoms era. It gives a player the freedom to do whatever they see fit. They can earn the ultimate weapons in the game and unlock various characters. Legendary Battles and stages are exclusive to this mode. Two players can also play this online. Co-Op is also available for players with two controllers.
