[edit] Background

Toshiie Maeda

[edit] Story

Toshiie Maeda is a generic in the first and second installment of the samurai warriors franchise. He is seen in many oda campaigns as a loyal frontline unit and often seen with katsuie shibata, although there is no special relation mentioned. For his own story in the expansion, however,he does have a father-son sort of relationship and before Okehazama, toshiie suggests to Katsuie that it is pointless to resist and it is suicide only to be berated by Katsuie. With newfound bravery, he helps at Okehazama and separates from Katsuie for several campaigns. He helps Nobunaga's escape at Kanegasaki by manning the rear guard with Hideyoshi, and both men have a respect for each other. Toshiie then helps at Osaka Bay, where he enlists himself in Hideyoshi's troops for the time being. While with Hideyoshi's troops at Shikoku fighting against the Chosokabe, news reaches that Nobunaga was slain at Honnoji. Toshiie wants to fall back, but is slapped by Hideyoshi who decides to carry on quelling Motochika. After the campaign, Hideyoshi strikes down Mitsuhide at Yamazaki and then targets Toshiie's old master Katsuie. Toshiie wants to join Katsuie, but the veteran warrior repleis that his time is up much to Toshiie's horror. He goes back to Hideyoshi and the Hashiba-Maeda army end Katsuie at Shizugatake, who dies with his burning castle. Toshiie, in an act of outrage, beats hideyoshi and tells him to promise to protect the lives of the sacrificed people in order to honour their memory. For his dream in sw2 xl, he is tested by Nobunaga and Katsuie to attack edo castle, with Kanetsugu as his advisor. He is challenged to gain as large of an army as possible from the coalition to attack the castle. He looks for Nobunaga, but insead gets to fight Hideyoshi and finally Katsuie without challenging Nobunaga, therfore passing the challenge.

In the third installment, he does not have a personal story mode, but appears in various Oda and Hashiba battles such as Okehazama, Tedorigawa and Komaki Nagakute. He also plays an important part in battles of Keiji's story mode and during Shizugatake, his reluctance to fight Hideyoshi ultimately causes Katsuie's downfall. His death also sparks the Toyotomi generals who distrust Mitsunari to openly attack him at Kyoto.

[edit] Warrior Detail

Toshiie Maeda boasts a triple-wielding moveset of two spears and a jagged sword. The sword, not unlike Ginchiyo's blade, is used for normal chain attacks with the spears accenting for charge attacks. Toshiie is strong and versatile, accommodating crowds and individuals alike.
